On July 2024, the monthly nature magazine "Terre Sauvage" published a double-page spread with the noble fan mussel as main character. The photo (authored by Mathieu Foulquié, from Oceanographic Institute Paul Ricard and partner of Life Pinnarca) shows a group of golden grey mullets (Chelon auratus) eating the oocytes released by a fan mussel specimen on the Thau Lagoon, France. The caption highlights the mass mortality events occured since 2016 and the fragile situation of this endangered species.
