Massively affected by a parasite, the large Pinna nobilis is in danger of extinction. In Ebro Delta (Spain), a few thousand specimens survive at the bottom of the bays, protected from the effects of the parasite by a strip of sand 6 km long, the Trabucador. This natural barrier is in danger of disappearing under the water, victim of the rising sea level and the subsidence of the Delta.
